Final Design

The final design effectively incorporates off-the-shelf components and hardware with DBZ's custom designed and fabricated components.

Nook Industries linear shafting and acme screws allow positioning of the crosshead to accommodate test assemblies of varying height via a manually operated crank and belt drive system.

Mounted in the crosshead, a TRD compact high-pressure hydraulic cylinder and Transducer Techniques load cell apply and measure force through the custom adjustable tooling mount.

6061 T6 aluminum was used for the side and top channel, bearing mounts, and crosshead to ensure a minimal final weight without sacrificing structural integrity. Steel brackets, base plate, and lifting eyes support the aluminum structure and ensure safety when applying loads and lifting the load frame.

New Way air bearings are mounted in the feet and provide near-effortless movement of the load frame when it is positioned on the precision granite table.

This short video highlights the primary components of the load frame. Renderings, both the image and video shown on this page, were produced using SolidWorks Visualize after the model of the final design was completed. A selection of exploded view drawings of some of the final design's major assemblies are provided below.
