A University of Nevada, Reno Mechanical Engineering Capstone Project In Cooperation with Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Division By Zero
The Project
Division By Zero is a team of mechanical engineering students at the University of Nevada, Reno who designed, fabricated, tested, and validated a prototype mobile load frame as their senior Capstone project during the 2017-2018 academic year. Team members are Brandon Josifko, Alex Barry, Michal Powell, Uriah Valentine, and Chris Wade.

The project was sponsored by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and won the 2018 Owen Stedham Best Capstone Project Award for the Mechanical Engineering Department at the University of Nevada, Reno.

The load frame is a half-scale prototype with a tested load capacity of 15,000 lb applied via a hydraulic cylinder attached to a vertically adjustable crosshead. Design selection, modeling, and engineering analysis lasted 6 months with fabrication and testing completed in 2 months.
